The family tree of David – of the King of Israel – is also (as Jesus Christ is the son of David, and as such he enters into Jerusalem celebrated as the Messiah) the motif of the rooting of the Transcendental God in the creation of the universe. We read how this effect comes to fruition in the “Book of Ruth”. The Holy Scripture has handed this story of love down to us. The motif of the square plaque is the primordial mother of the House of David – “Ruth” in the archway of the garden at the root of David’s family tree (Ernst Fuchs).
