A family is more than the sum of its parts. It is a union that lasts throughout life and beyond, and at the same time manifold (in this case, fourfold) unit. However, this is not all that is expressed in the “family constellation” of Bodirsky’s sculpture. It also shows that the family is also a dynamic “space”, in which distance, obstinacy and development must have their place – up to the day on which the children can stand on their own feet and find their own way in the world.
