Bronze sculpture details
Gehlen's stilt shows a moment of child-like happiness: it "floats" above the ground, gazing courageously straight ahead and firmly clutching its stilts. Now it knows how it works ‑ forgotten are the insecurity and fear it felt when first trying to walk.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Klaus Gehlen was born in Monschau-Mützenich (Eifel). After completing a design apprenticeship from 1977 to 1980 in Aachen, he then completed another apprenticeship as a wood sculptor and worked as a sculptor until 1996, before opening his own business as a freelance bronze sculptor.
