The owl is known as symbol and epitome of wisdom and, for this reason, has been revered since ancient times. Nübold adds something more to this: his owl looks the observer extremely mischievously in the eye, which again speaks for its wisdom (or that of its maker). Because a man isn’t wise if he’s not also a little mischievous.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Taxidermist, restorer and eventually sculptor of rank - the artistic resume of Hans Nübolds looks remarkably consistent in retrospect, because for one, he is considered as a artisanal perfectionist and for the second, he has just as often excelled as a sculptor of animals, especially his reprensentation of horses are widely known.
