Donato Diez, son of an artistically gifted family completed an apprenticeship under the tutelage of his father in Berlin. From 1975-1976 he completed training as a stone sculpting in Frankfurt. He attended the Städel school in Frankfurt and worked as a wood and stone restorer from 1977-1985 near the cathedral and the old opera in Frankfurt, Freiburg and Hannover. Since 1985 he has been a freelance sculptor.
