Bronze sculpture details
It is the contrast: The heavy mass of the boat and the lightweight figure of the gondolier who is submerging the stick into the water.
It may be no coincidence that the boat has the shape of a pickax: Wintgens combines montane heaviness with Mediterranean lightness.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Udo Wintgens lives in Duisburg, the once coal-rich Ruhr area. The trained sculptor attended master school in the southern parts of Aschaffenburg, where he completed his master's exam in the stone carving craft. Subsequently after his masters exam he completed his training to become a certified restorer.
