Chickens are fundamentally social animals who defer to the prescribed pecking order. But why should there be no individualists here, as well? Bigi’s chicken, whose black feathers alone make it stand out from the crowd, also lays its eggs only at night, according to the title – it is a poultry version of the artist who withdraws from everyday life and makes use of the night to consummate his work.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Rinaldo Bigi was born in Pietrasanta, near the famous marble quarries of Carrara. So, one of the materials which he was to work with later on in his life was right at his feet when he was just a baby.
