Adam und Eva
Bronze sculpture details
The allegorical events in the ancient story of the fall of the human couple are a report on primordial rupture. Eve is taken out of Adam. Solitary oneness becomes the tension of “coupledom”. In my view and depiction of the motif Adam appears crowned as the “head” of the couple. The apparition of the biblical patriarch, who symbolises the beginning of our humanity – stands facing his femininity, his anima (as though she were his soul). Adam’s hand holds Eve’s hand in a way that reveals that ultimately Adam, too, reaches for the fruits of the Tree of Knowledge (Ernst Fuchs).
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Prof. Ernst Fuchs
Ernst Fuchs, who died in November 2015, always wanted to be a universal artist – and he consistently realised this desire throughout his life.
