On her travels through Egypt, Maria-Luise Bodirsky studied faces and poses of the statues of ancient Egyptian culture in great detail. Years later, she created her “Freundinnen” (Friends), which are reminiscent of Egyptian block statues. However, in contrast to these, the two figures rise out of the strict cube form and enter into different dialogues depending on the position of the figurines in relation to one another.
