Bronze sculpture details
Idiomatically, it is commonly known that they whistle it from the roofs and not from the treetops: sparrows, especially the house sparrow as the most well-known of the three species found in Germany, are synanthropic and live near human settlements – preferably near villages with agriculture where they can find ample food. But the bird populations are declining significantly. Modern agriculture and the ever-increasing sealing of the land are making their life difficult. In 2002 the former “ordinary” bird was even declared “Bird of the Year”, in need of protection, by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (German Nature and Biodiversity Conversation Union).
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
