MAJESTIC: THE LARGEST OF ALL FALCONS – The gyrfalcon, the largest of all falcons, lives in the vast wilds of the far North (Canada, Russia), paying only rare visits to central Europe nowadays. Owing to his majestic beauty and suitability for falconry, he was already held in high esteem in the Middle Ages; trained gyrfalcons were so valuable that they often served as diplomatic “gifts of state” for the dignitaries of the kingdoms of that era. Then as now, the gyrfalcon was considered the best bird of all for hunting.
