Pieter Sohl is the son of the painter Will Sohl (1906 –1969). Like his father, he trained at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he studied sculpture and nude drawing, supplemented by training as a stage designer. During this time, he also became a pupil of the internationally renowned sculptor Christos Kapralos at the Art Academy of Athens. In the following years, he led the life of a globetrotter: from Paris his path took him to Africa on the trail of the ivory and mask carvers; he worked on Crete, taught as an art teacher in the U.S. and designed for Denmark’s leading silversmiths.
