Only together do they form a whole: “The Sun”, golden and with a radiating head, and “The Moon”, as a midnight blue half moon. Massey presents them as a couple facing each other, one releasing the other to the earth for half of the day.
Edition in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chased and patinated by hand.
Fidelma Massey studied at School of Art, Dun Laoghaire majoring in Fine Art / Sculpture (Stonecarving, Claymodelling, Drawing and Ceramics). She engaged in commercial ceramics until 1986; after which time she returned to her original interest in pure sculpture, working in bronze, stone and ceramics.
